One aspect of robots that may escape the casual observer is their unreliability. As pointed out in the article linked below, robots are far from perfect, and sometimes fail at what might seem very simple tasks. (And we’re not talking about Pleo or Asimo here, but some high-end military and rescue robots.)

Of course, with billions of dollars going into robotics research and development, the faults encountered by today’s robots will be gradually weeded out. So that by the time we have armed, two-legged police robots patrolling our streets, they will be completely without fault, more or less.
